I just recently moved from the States to Dublin, and i have been surprised at the lack of diversity in the beer market. Perhaps this is because i have mostly just visited city pubs. I am living in the Ringsend area.

Where are the best places to find microbrews? both irish and from abroad? I am mainly looking for places where i can purchase to bring home.

Also, i have tried most of the commercially available beer in America so if anyone wants to discuss or get a recommendation i would love to give it.

has anyone here heard of the Rogue Brewery in Oregon?

Welcome to Dublin, and to the site. You can find decent brews in The Bull & Castle and the Porterhouse(s) here in the city centre. A good selection of bottles are held in the off-licence shops that care enough, such as Redmonds of Ranelagh, McHughs etc., including offerings from Rogue (Dead Guy Ale etc.).

oh, also - is anyone going to be attending stout fest at the porterhouses? i am going to try it out this evening. chocolate truffle stout sounds delectable!

The chocoloate truffle stout is indeed tasty. I don't really think that the stout fest is much of a festival, merely a way of putting attention on the Porterhouse's standard stouts with the addition of the chocolate one.

There is an upcoming festival in Cork over the Easter weekend which is well worth a visit if you can make it.

Hi Armin,

I hope you didn't have great expectations of Ireland as a beer haven. The guys have already mentioned the good beer venues and BeerNut has provided you with your beer bearings. You'll probably find that Redmonds in Ranelagh is the best off licence within reach. A few of the Rogue beers were available last summer but they have disappeared since then due to the collapse of one of the better beer importers (actually THE best, but that's another story)

The Chocolate Stout is very tasty. Seeing as I was passing Porterhouse Central at lunchtime I.. um.. stopped in for a couple..
