Disappointing to hear the pizza at the Bierhaus is no more. They did a great black pudding and potato pizza there.

Fran Well beer garden is great for sunny days as well.

Bodega on Coal Kay (Quay) have decent food and Rising Sons beers. Across from Rising Sons (same owner) and a stroll to Bierhaus and Fran Well.

[b:26x45ue6]@Tim [/b:26x45ue6] - It's Lapp's Quay rather than Latch Quay. Elbow Lane is a two minute walk from The Clarion. Pubs nearby would be El Fenix and The Poor Relation - another two owned by Benny McCabe (owner of the aforementioned Rising Sons, Sin É and Mutton Lane) - I think he has 13 pubs to his name now. 12 in Cork!

The quay system in Cork can confuse visitors - the river splits in two and the city is in the middle of it.

For example Kennedy Quay - Albert Quay - Union Quay - Sullivan's Quay - French's Quay - Proby's Quay is all in a straight line along one stretch of water on one side! That would only take 5 ten minutes to walk. So it can cause a bit of head scratching.

Just for the record made it to the Beirhaus over the weekend. It was quite late on the Saturday night when we got there, so wouldn't have been my preferred time!

Mosaic seemed to be all the rage, which is fine with me as its a hop variety I have a lot of time for.

Kinsale had a Mosaic IPA and Founders had a similar offering.

Have to say I was more inclined to the Kinsale version. It had a definite hop forward characteristic whereas Founders seemed more restrained with quite a malty backbone.
Added to this was the fact that at €5.80, Kinsale was a wapping €1.30 cheaper than the Founders beer.

I'd definitely go back at a time when I could peruse the selection at my leisure ... since 11:30 on a Saturday night doesn't generally show any bar in its best light!

On an aside, I could definitely recommend The Oliver Plunkett. Great staff, lovely food and they did have Fran Well Chieftain on draught, which is quite acceptable to me.
