Tullys of Carlow opened their new bar in Waterford last Friday. It is on the site of Ally McLoughlins a much loved bar near Garter Lane Arts Centre and ~3 minutes walk from the bus station and has been kept more or less the same with just major upgrades to smoking area and toilets.
Decent selection of craft beers including Metalman PA and seasonal tap, O'Haras PA and Red, 12 Acres and O Brothers The Chancer (all I can recall right now) and a goodish selection of bottles.
The owner Ed and the staff I spoke to have an interest in beer and Ed has told me he is interested in hosting some Beoir related events in the future.
I will be back at a quieter time to have a pint and a chat and wish them all the best, its nice to have a new proper pub with decent beer in town

I was looking at it on social media and on google street view, and I can honestly say I've no recollection of it. Whatever it was in my college days, I was never in it! Though I was in Maher's across the street, with my girlfriend of the time, briefly!

Not a student type bar Shane its where all the arty types from Garter Lane hung out and was always a stop for me and my mates on the way to the Bridge Hotel for the disco <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
Ally was always a classy lady with a sharp wit and a sharp tongue if need be, as had her husband Donie before that. Unfortunately when she was ill her son had the tongue but none of the wit so the pub went into decline in the last few years
