Anyone got any recommendations for places to hit in Manchester city centre?

Preferably a couple of good brewpubs.

Marble arch (no longer a brew pub but still tap for marble) Angel nearby v good too.then port street beer house on way bk to station.

Font, Knott &brewdog all worth a visit if u have time. Microbar I interesting as inside arndale shopping centre

If you have more time u can head to chorlton as a brewpub there plus plenty others.

Out side of what Stephanos » said, here are a few of my recommendations

The New Oxford Salford, it a great traditional pub and multiple CAMRA winner.

The Knot and cask are near each other, modern but with good cask and keg options. south city near the science museum which is worth a visit.

The city arms is another classic pub not to be missed and it also has the Waterhouse (a classy spoons!!) beside it with usual a good range of cask not found around.

The Old Wellington is an architectural gem along with Sinclair's Oyster Bar (Sam smith pubs) where uo can get a pint of mild for 1.80!!!!

The Marble Arch is a must see. BrewDog, if you've been to one you've been to them all, so it wouldn't be high on my list. If you're near the Printworks (and old print building) there's a Lloyd's there (Lloyd's are fancy Wetherspoons but the same underneath, bit like Mercs are fancy Ssang Yongs)

For architectural gems with real ale see Peverill of the Peak, The Briton's Protection, Mr Thomas' Chop House and there are a couple of very thin bars, one is called the Circus I think but the one next door is great too.

For more modern/craft type places, also with real ale you can't do better than stroll around the Northern Quarter - Odd Bar, 37 Thomas Street - minimalistic place, more like a coffee shop but with barrels on counter, Bar Frindge - excellent Belgian style place and many more. Also there is Hare & Hounds, only one real ale but an old school pub that had free sausage rolls when I was there a few weeks ago.

Don't forget Stockport...only 10 mins or so from Piccadilly. 10 min walk from the station is the Magnet Freehouse which is a must visit. Also, another good cask pub (The Crown Inn) below the railway arches on the way. All much cheaper than some of the silly craft beer prices in the city centre.
