Oh that reads like a review posted by a hotel owner on Tripadvisor
I wish my experience was the same, badly trained staff that don't know how to serve cask, which I gather has since been rectified.
I have no problem with shabby chic but its just grotty and the bar stinks of stale beer and needs a "deep clean".
I sat down with an overseas visitor and a picture fell off the wall and hit him badly on the head, when advising the manager on duty he took it and put it behind the bar and not a word as if it was our fault, lesser scrots would have sued.
We finished what were nice pints and left.
Too many other choices with better Irish beer and food offerings around town for me to return.

Kingmidas do you have any connection to the beer trade, u have to say your posts are coming across very strange.

Like others have said i find the staff here average to terrible.

I'm just a regular ale and cask drinker and i was just giving my verdict on O'Neills Bar. You should have went straight to Mike O'Neill hes the owner if you got no joy with the manager. The bar is over 300 years old so theres bound to be an odd smell from it. I like the fact it has lots of nooks and crannies. The Old Speckeld Hen price for a pint is pushing it though as i remember it used to be just over a €5. Its not worth €5.75 and if it goes up again i wont be buying it anymore. The carvery and early breakfast is good quality and reasonably priced considering its location. Nothing strange in any of my posts. These are all my own personal opinions you dont have to agree with any of them. No connections to the beer trade here.

Kingmidas and his tripadvisor reviews lol. ..nah I know this chap hes an ale drinker not seller.

I think O Neil's is a fairly average bar, its not great and the prices are a killer, I agree the customer service is really pot luck, and don't get me started on them damn fruit flies

One positive is they give you an Xmas pint Free..and that's anything on the bar. For a city center bar that sees so many faces coming and going this has to be a good thing..I've had a Free 1 for the last few years. i'll chance the Free carvey this year

Thanks for that pmcentaggart lol. oh yea the fruit flies will kill you in there they can get really out of hand at times. I have started to see them fruity flies in another new bar that just opened too hahahaha. You know you just cant win with some of these bars its like that foul smell you get from the gents toilet on the second floor in JW Sweetmans or the tiny toilet in Mulligans Grocery bar . Theres never any handwash in both ever hahahaha. The free pint at Christmas is something for a busy city centre pub to remember you or maybe we drink in there too much lol. Carvery next time would be much better
