Glasgow Pubs 11 years 8 months ago #1

So I'm heading over to Glasgow for a few days and was wondering what the must visit pubs are for good beer, craft or real ale or both!

I reckon I'll be in the city centre most of the time so with that in mind does anyone have any suggestions?

Also any tips on eateries would be great.

Cheers <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

The Guardian put up this list the other day, read the comments to get more recommendations.

I'll try and rack my brain for a pub I found in Merchant City that had the brilliant Cromarty Red Rocker on.

I was in Glasgow in April - was busy mostly but managed a few pints! The State Bar is good and is directly across the road from a 'Spoon's pub - which was handy as it didn't open until 5pm, I think! Blackfriars is also good. I also went to a decent Spoons (former banking house) just off George's Square. And Opium (oriental fusion) on Hope street was very good for food.

Ain't no Edinburgh though!

I'll be off to Edinburgh after for a few days more and looking froward to the places I missed the last time around.I got some good suggestions from ye the last time. The Bow Bar, Hanging Bat, Blue Blazer etc. all of them excellent. Also tried a haggis burger in The Hollyrood 9a, didn't really enjoy it I have to say but the beers were great.

I'm defo going to hit The State Bar,sounds good in the write up in the guardian and I'll always trust a fellow Beoir member. Spoons wise I'm staying around the corner from The Counting House and I think this is the one you've mentioned so that's a winner! Opium looks good,just checked out the menu. They have Negroni listed in the cocktails too, I'm in.

theres the new drygate brewery worth a visit by all accounts, inn deep williams bros bar plus valhalla's goat williams bros bottle shop and the brewdog bar. I like WEST brewery too, decent german beer perfect for this weather. Pot still and hree judges are two pubs i've heard about but never visited. Check the places section on ratebeer to map the best beer spots
