I'll be "Home" for a few days in August 2014. Spending 2 days in Cavan town, and 4 days in the Daingean/Rhode/Edenderry area of Co. Offaly.
Does anyone know any good places where I can get some proper beer? (I will be getting a delivery from drinkstore, to promote to some cousins)

Unless things have changed in the last couple of months, there is nada on tap in Cavan town. Bottles in the Raddison Blue & in some pubs in Belturbet & Ballyconnell (I can check & get names of pubs that may not be on the Beoir finder)

Offie wise, there's Aldi for O'Sheas & a fairly mixed bag from Supervalu, Dunnes & Tesco. All will have Irish Craft, selection & price will vary.

There is a hidden gem though. If head from Cavan town north to Latt Cross (ask locally or PM me for me directions) there is a petrol station. Good selection of O Haras (inc some specials) & Hooker etc but also some nice Belgians & even some Biere De Garde. That's assuming me & my brother in law haven't scooped it all!!

It's the only way to get any progress. Having more than one person come in & ask is always useful!

There's a pub that has re-opened in Butlersbridge, about 5 miles outside Cavan town called the Deregarra Inn. The new owners ran a really nice restaurant for years in another part of Cavan so the food should be excellent.

Hope to nip in this weekend for a nosey but in a piece in the local paper all the right noises were being made in terms of local produce, wine sommelier and a craft beer list. I'm hoping it's Irish and on draught and will report back.
