They have pumped quite a bit of money into it Séan, around 2.2 million supposedly. They say that they bought three houses adjacent to the pub to open up the space there, presumably to make the venue more visible. I was under the impression they were bought by the City to create an open space that was to house a full-size model of a longboat, according to the original plan for that part of the triangle.
It is squarely aimed at the tourist market it being on one point of the "Viking Triangle" which the City Council has fired a bag of money at in the last few years and has seen the revival of the Munster Bars fortunes.
I am a bit concerned at the whole diddley-eye music for the tourists bit but I would presume from the blurb that they are trying to get the 40-50 somethings, who remember the old "Reg" and Catch 22 disco in the nearby Tower Hotel, to provide the evening trade when all the tourists are gone to bed.
It will be quite nostalgic for people of my age group with the added attraction of some decent beer. It is already creating a stir on Facebook.
