Where were you based in Germany? I'm assuming the northern half because of the Kegeln and Schiessstand. My wife reckons it's a northern phenomenon or at least more prevalent here than where she comes from <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I didn't realise you had to have a proper license to distill here. I wonder if it's required for small quantities? A colleague has been talking about making whisky for years apparently, although I've convinved him to start with beer at least.

I started on the Friesian islands, then that german bar was in Hannover.
As far as I'm aware you need a license to distill but not to make your own, so hence they get their brews ready and then the travelling still comes around once or so a year and they hit him up.
