Best bet, give it a go with wordpress and if you are not happy, then hire someone. Or at least, get something up with wordpress first so you at least have a presence while waiting for a proper site.

One question Andrew, if I'm going to use a CMS system, like a Wordpress template for example, do I even need a developer? It seems to me it would be a whole lot cheaper to just buy a template and populate it myself.

Thanks again, Rich.[/quote:3b3olhcm]

Rich, only if you want to get the site to do something bespoke- i.e. something that a plug in does not already exist for. As Reuben says, try Wordpress first and if you then decide that you need to go further, then look to hiring a developer/designer. At least in the short term you will be able to pull your content and imagery together.

I can quickly set you up with a Wordpress site (for free) if you want to have a punt at it. You can then go find a theme that you would like and start building it. Plus you can also ask questions here (there are a few of us with WP experience).

The good thing about wordpress, apart from being easy enough to build a website on and edit easily, it's a blog platform and Google loves blogs. Keep it up to date with fresh content and it will do your seo the world of good.

Thanks again guys, sound advice.

A blog is something I definitely want Saruman, I've actually written the first few posts already, I just don't have anywhere to put them yet.

Andrew, that's a very kind offer, I would really appreciate being set up with a Wordpress site, PM me to let me know what info you need from me for the set up.

My previous sites, not brewing related, were built from scratch, their lack of a CMS and the cost of constantly updating and editing etc was high, not to mention inconvenient, I'm glad there is now a better way.

Now if only I could find a location for the brewery as easily. The deal on one place seems to have fallen apart yesterday, time to start searching again.

If you are in Roscommon, have you checked with Galway Hooker to see if they are moving out of theirs? There was talk of them moving to a new site in Galway.
Since they just rent a fully functioning brewery, it would leave it open for someone else to move in if they move out.
