Dunnes & Irish craft beers 13 years 7 months ago #1

Just back from my local Dunnes and noticed they were stocking O'Hara's LF + Curim (no pricvs on either).

Hadn't noticed them stocking any Irish craft beers before. Hopefully it's only a start.

I work in the off license of one of the Dunnes in Cork. I've been pestering head office for a long long time to stock more craft beers, especially Irish. Leann Follain/Curim/O'Haras IPA are the first. I got a memo back from the assistant buyer a while back which said they had been in contact with some of the breweries. Porterhouse were not interested, Galway Hooker were hoping to be able to supply Dunnes in time for Christmas.
I got no reply about the other companies I asked about such as 8°/Dungarvan/Trouble Brewing/Whitewater etc. There will be new listings but not many Irish beers unfortunately. They might extend the erdinger range and a few others but don't get your hopes up.
Craft beer is a hard sell in Dunnes, wine sales make up the vast majority of the business and thats where all the focus/budget goes.

Welcome to Beoir and well dunne ( no pun intended ) for trying.

A lot of the smaller brewers are on very tight schedules in terms of time and capacity. An enquiry from Dunnes could scare them to death. That is probably why the smaller ones didn't get back to you.

If Hooker come on board then its a start <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Also the Fransiscan Well has just announced a big expansion project so I'd have a word with them

Keep up the struggle!

Just noticed today, our stockcard was updated. Clotworthy Dobbin and Copperhead ale have been listed with Dunnes. I don't know what price they will be yet. They are on the system now so should be on shelves during the week.
Also listed:
Fullers pale ale
Wychwood ginger beard
Schneiderweisse heffe
Greene king ipa
Fullers honey dew
Erdinger kristal
Erdinger dunkel
Asahi
Krombacher 500ml
We had the brand manager from Barry Fitzwilliam ltd in the shop on a visit during the week, Wells banana bread and double chocolate stout might also make an appearance on Dunnes shelves soon.

5 beers of the world for €10 Seems they have O'Haras and Belfast Lager.

Edit: Just realised this is my first post. I've been reading the forum for ages. Great amount of info on here. Hello and keep up the good work everyone.

In Dunnes Cornelscourt yesterday there was a selection of Whitewater and Oharas included in the 5 for €10 offer. IIRC there was Belfast Lager, Clotworthy Dobbin and Belfast Ale from Whitewater and Leann Follamh, Indial Pale ale and Curim amongst the lineup. All is good!
