Since last year at the RDS, it was their festival beer (in fact there are quite a few festival beers in that list)

Are you sure? I thought it was that vanilla beer, along with lager and their regular pale ale.

I think you are right. I need to check the db but I seem to remember the Double IPA was the original idea.
