[quote:wkeabgzo]Murphys traditonally outsold Beamish, this has changed in the last 5 to 10 years. You will now struggle to see many Murphys taps outside of Cork, and certainly Munster. Beamish targetted the old man market by cutting their price, which had the knock on effect of their pint having decent throughput in old man's pubs. As a consequence the pint was generally in better nick where both were available[/quote:wkeabgzo]

I wonder what the situation is with the export market though?
[quote:wkeabgzo]On a personal note I hope Beamish doesn't get the chop as it's my favourite of the Big 3.[/quote:wkeabgzo]
Have to agree with you there. I prefer Beamish to the either of the other big three myself.

Murphy's, AFAIK, is brewed in some Heineken plants abroad. I think they make it in Marseille, for example.

I would be fearful for the future of the Beamish & CrawfoRd stouT and site if the Merger goes ahead. Murphy's is a wholly-owned Heineken brand for years and brewed from same site as Hieneken in Ireland. It would be a pity if they rationalised and brewed all their titles on the one site whic would be likel if the take-over goes ahead as itlooks. I have changed in past year from Murphy's to Bemaish where possible but would fear that Beamish would lose out if the takeover goes ahead as we fear it will.

The possible takeover took another step forward today[/url:1ch6k2fd]. S&N seem to be taking the bid seriously for the first time.

it would be a sin for the beamish brewery to go. it looks great and produces my favourite "big 3" stout by far. they hooked me in with the taste and i stayed for the price! murph is crazy expensive and even more so than giunn up here and ive found it to have little consistancy ......something guinness drinkers can testify to.....Beam on the other hand near always tastes! Beam forever! (well ..over the other two..bring back Darcy's and itll p*ss all over them)
