Anyone got a comparison chart for finding equivalent standard ingredients?
E.g. I buy Crystal Whole Grain 430 EBC - what does that equate to in US standard ingredients?

Off the top of my head, I think you cut that number in half. Anyone know better?

Altavista is your friend (or, whatever the kids use these days) Just search for a colour conversion chart.

Back up the truck -

You can swap the units on Beertools very easily.

Right click on the units and you can swap between SRM,EBC and L

Is the problem here - that someone gave you a recipe from beertools and you dont have it installed ??

+1 to both KeeganAles and Partridge's response.

Beertools can EASILY convert units by right-clicking (install the trial for free). But just dividing the EBC units in half gets you close enough (very close, actually) to Lovibond.

There's a "convert units" calculator in Beertools, too and you can just select "Color" from the drop-down.

Oh yea Lovibond and SRM colors (Both used in the US) are almost identical, too. Lovibond was an older method that was based upon visual inspection (of wort created from the grain, if I'm not mistaken), and SRM was supposed to use more scientific methods but essentially ended up with near identical ratings using different methods. -Don't confuse "⁰L" (degrees Lintner) ratings on malt spec sheets for the Lovibond rating either; that's a totally different beast that doesn't speak to the color at all.
