I just spent a couple of days on a family visit to Dublin (not a beer tour unfortunately) I couldn’t help notice with pleasure that craft beer is available in most off licences and something different to drink in many pubs. It is easy to find quality beer in some excellent pubs specialising in good beer.
It’s a dramatic change from just 4/5 years ago maybe those living in the city don’t notice the steady expansion of craft brew so much as an occasional visitor.
Credit is due to all those who have made this happen, volunteers who have given masses of time and effort to Beoir / ICB and those who have been brave enough to go professional brewing and running bars. you. [b:mco1youp]Take a bow all of you[/b:mco1youp]
I understand things are as good in Cork and Galway. --Long live the revolution.
I did manage to grab a short visit to ‘Against the Grain’ and was introduced to ‘5am Saint’
WOW
Yesterday I went into The Palace where, at the end of the row of long-dead handpumps, there's a live Angram beer engine serving damn fine pints of Helvick Gold.

-The 5am Saint on tap IS wonderful, too(or 6am Saint as I've been calling it on accident, lately).

ah Adam you should not have explained, the chaos you caused by having people think that another beer was out called 6am is the best way to get a rumour going. <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt="" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->
I had actually presumed that 6 am Saint was a new variation and was looking forward to trying it!
I'll be in Dublin for my dads birthday on Friday and was hoping to find a quiet pub with good beer. I imagine that Against The Grain and Bull and Castle will get quite packed so can anyone recommend a place where someone in their 60's wont feel too out of place?
Thanks.
