Counterfeit Beer 14 years 10 months ago #7

Andrew, you're right about Corona!
My worry is mostly regarding how big chains can be fooled; the corner shops that feature in this seem to be dodgy all round.
Tescos say it's down to their distributor and they wont take responsibility but the serious issue here is health and the conditions that the fake beer was brewed in.
When you go into a main street supermarket the last thing you expect is that the products they sell will be counterfeit but that's whats occurring.
As an aside, there was a doc on BBC4 last week about the Gomorrah and how they are usurping legitimate craft cheese makers in Napoli with counterfeit dairy products!!

If you avoid the macro / industrial robot brewers you're pretty safe; the micros aren't widely available enough and don't have enough brand recognition to be worth attempting to clone. (And they actually have flavor which as most of us home brewers know, makes it very difficult to clone.)

Just don't drink the swill advertised at sporting events and you should be safe. <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

As for fake vodka- surely it is or is not vodka. Is fake vodka water with vodka flavouring??? White rum pretending to be vodka???[/quote:3jxuehva]

Lol! If these products had any flavor (and I'm speaking for both vodka and beer) counter fitters would actually have to work to rip them off.
