That said, the only beer I've ever really found stands up well to pipe smoke is draught Wrassler's.

When I used to smoke a pipe my favourite tabacoo when drinkg Belgian dubbles and other strong dark beers in winter was the Dutch Yellow Sail ( Or Sail Geel (pronounced Hail ) in Dutch ) a lovley mild, fragrant fruity smoke that complemented the flavours of the beer.

Should be possible to get it in the better tabac shops here like Capp & Petersons

Any tabacco to accompany beer should be cool burning and smoked gently as "burning the tongue" is a definite no-no - you will taste nothing - might as well cool it down with Heineken <!-- s:x --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":x" title="Mad" /><!-- s:x -->

thats good to know. i just wanted to avoid the whole getting a e-mail telling me to remove post and then having a unnessery long discussion about suitable posts ect . this is from experience on a entirely diffrent forum.

i personally am a beliver that beer is as versitial even moreso for pairing with food than wine! and was wondering did the same apply to pipes and if so where would be a good starting point. this i hope will lead to some expermentation to see what works and what does not. on sunday (my main drinking night) ill pick up a btl of chimay blue, a btl of wrassler (if i can get hold of some) or similar and pop open a few homebrews see what happens and report back. if anyone is intrested.
