A big hello to all of the regulars on the ICB website.
I came across your site last night (thur 20th July) and I am so delighted that i did .
I was actually searching for info on the Bull and Castle pub when i hit your site and realized i had just you missed your own outing to that pub. I'm heading there tonight (fri 21st July) with a few mates and judging by comments on your night out it'll be great.
My name is Alan and I live in Clonsilla Dublin. I love trying new beers and I am blessed with the Molloy's off license just up the road which stocks a reasonable amount of specialty beers that are actually kept in a fridge- although some need to be left to warm up a bit to fully appreciate them.
I came across my first micro brewery in the U.S. in 1999 and i have been a big fan ever since. I've been lucky to have been the U.S. lots of times since and I have got to sample plenty of beers. I would recommend Austin TX every March for the South by SouthWest music festival. Great bars, great music and great beer.
My favorite U.S. micro beer is Arrogant Bastard Ale from the guys at the Stone Brewing company (
www.stonebrew.com). You gotta love their bottle caps which read "yellow beer is for wussies".
I haven't brewed my own as yet but i have been researching it lately. Hopefully this site will get me started.
Are there any beer appreciation events in Ireland? I know the beers i like but it'd be great to be able to say why i like them. Maybe this is something the ICB could think about to help spread the appreciation of good beer.
I am looking forward to expanding my beer knowledge with your help and hopefully meeting up with a few of you for a pint or two.
-Alan
