NEW MEMBER POPPING IN TO SAY HELLO 18 years 9 months ago #1

Hi All,

I decided as a newly joined member I Would say hi to you all and introduce myself.

I came across this site about a month ago or so by chance and must say I am very impressed with it. As you can see I live in Cork, My favourite haunts for good beer are the Bierhaus, superb range of beers on draught and bottle (see their website for menu – also have monthly guest specials as well) and the Abbot Alehouse off licence. Has some great discount beers on expiry date –great selection at pretty good prices too.

Of late must say I am very impressed with Galway Hooker and O’Hara’s Stout which I always have one of each on my trips to the Bierhaus. First came across Hooker at the Franciscan Beerfest in April. It is definitely very popular in the Bierhaus (who said we Cork people are clannish!!!!!)

In regular pubs I tend to drink mainly Murphy’s or Beamish (Have to take Guinness sometimes when the choice is not there!) and if on lager feel that Miller si the best of the regular ones. Not a patch on decent top quality beers though!!!

I ma currently in the process of trying to make up a list of all beers I have had over the past few years. Have been dinking for 20 odd years so no doubt will not remember them all!!!!!!!!

Recent beers I have sampled include the following-

Dark Island (ale) and Red McGregor form the Orkney Brewery which I brought home on my hols from there last year – both very nice drinks. Would like to get them here if possible.
Platan Granat – czech dark lager – 5.5% very good.
Dos Equis Amber beer from Mexico 5.3% 33 cl bottle Very nice too..
Tyskie – o.k. Polski lager.

At home I tend to just try one premium beer followed by maybe one of two regulars – currently working through ot of beers I have bought form Abbot alehouse (overbought for a while!!!!) AND working through a case of Miller and Guinness (cheap deal from Tesco around Easter) as regular drink It is a tough life but someone has to do it!!!!!

Hope all you Dublin members enjoyed the beer tasting on Thursday night – would love to have been there but maybe another time!!

Happy drinking.

Ger

Welcome to the forum Ger, it sure does sound like a hard life but i admire the way you keep your chin up and soldier on . Try living around the midlands where the idea of a good pintof ale is nasty Smithwicks that tastes like it was filtered through a sweaty sock. I'm heading to Cork in a couple of months for a stag so hopefully i'll be able to try some of the places you mentioned if i can give the party the slip on the Sunday morning

Welcome aboard! It's a struggle drinking all the wonderful beer around but we all seem to rise to the challenge rather well.
