Temperature's 15 years 11 months ago #1

Hey all. I have had a long hard look around a lot of forums trying to find out for myself what temp I should be brewing my lager at. I didnt want have to ask the question on a forum myself but every god damn site seems to have different opinions!! Can someone please set me straight. What temp should a lager(not ale,stout or bitter) be fermented at? Thanks <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Ok, thanks for that. I really shouldnt have brewed this wk. Nice and warm up in meath this wk. Oh well, iv it already in the primary and its reading 22c. Cant understand why some people say between 21 and 26 is good and others waaaay less. Anyway, thanks for your advice again.

Hey. What yeast did you use? The type of yeast used will have a big difference on how this turns out. Have you any way of getting your temp down to 10C?

Fermenting a lager yeast at 22c will give you beer it just won't taste anything like a lager!
Some people recommend that you pitch a Lager yeast at room temp, let it kick off then move it to a lower fermentation temp others say you should pitch the yeast at the temp your are going to ferment at. I have tried both with the same recipe and the one I pitched at room temp did have some off flavours while the other is very clean taste.

@endatheworld.
Thanks for the response. I dont know what kind of yeast it came with? Its a younges harvest lager kit.I cant get it down below room temp im afraid. Im only starting out and dont have very good equipment. I'll just have to leave as is and hope for the best.
