although for some reason Wheeler thinks it's important to give you measurements for 19, 21 and 23 litre batches but doesn't bother to include yeast in his recipes.

yea kind of a pitty as some beer like fullers, Harvey's are yeast driven. I could understand that alot of home brewers primary use dry yeast but an appendix of an appropriate liquid yeast would be handy

Designing Great Beers by Ray Daniels is very good.

Big thread on it here[/url:3ejgrubv]

Desgning Great Beers has some intersting chapters on hops but to me it's too focused on "style" and recipes based on AHA recipes.I know thats what it is focused. Also it seems a little outdated? Not wildly but just could do with some revision.

Homebrew Styles; India Pale Ale is very interesting. Lots of historical information on the origins and some mega old school recipes! One of them says something like "if not hoppy enough add another big pile" thats after a recipe with 500g (for 25L!)

The Microbrewer's handbook is interesting but is more geared to starting a brewery and the ins and outs of the industry rather than brewing science.

there are plenty of books on brewing it depends how in depth you want to go really.A general background with recipes? any of the books mentioned above, for
brewing science[/url:3ejgrubv] try amazon. They tend to quite in depth, guess it depends if thats what you want.Probably not quite so much!

Having recently signed up for a subscription, I received my first copy on Friday. I was a bit underwhelmed by the content but hopefully it will improve. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
