Well there could be some truth in the ergot thing, it is the substance that they isolated LSD from, it often used to end up in a towns bread supply. The whole town would go mad after their morning loaf and start running around going crazy. The Salem witch trials are apparently the result of an ergot poisoning. Visions, abortions people being heavily intoxicated....all symptoms of LSD, it was originally discovered while they were looking at the abortant qualities of ergot...the trip was an undesirable side effect <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
