Beer mission in Dublin Thursday 19th March 17 years 2 months ago #1

I have to come to Dublin for a wwwwork meeting
on Thursday 19th March and note this month it will not coincide with an ICB monthly Meet which is no problem whatsoever. I have not been drinking in Dublin for a while and am devoting Thursday evening to beer sampling!

I am basing myself close to Temple Bar and am thinking of doing something like the following

1. Call to Messrs's first - any suggestion re are there any worthwhile beers on draught there at present?

2. Porterhouse - possibly get a sample tray of stouts and maybe sample TSB as never had it before.

3. Call to Bull and Castle - never been before and really like the sound of the place - Any particular drinks anyone would rcommend there that are possibly only available there - note I go to the Bierhaus and Abbots alehouse and F.Well in Cork and thankfully we do have a gopd selcetion in these good places!.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also if anyone would like to join me at any stage too do feel welcome. I expect my meeitg to be over c. 2/2.30 p.m. and would hope to go out perhaps 4.30/5- ish.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Messr's - Their Porter is lovely...only 4 quid a pint too

Sounds like a good plan Ger. As noted the Plain in Messrs is very good. The Porterhouse is worth a visit for their stouts in particular and also the TSB - not everyone's favourite but I like it. You'll find the B&C has a similar range of beers to The Well & The Bierhaus combined, although I think Leann Follain will be on cask that week. What makes the B&C unique from a Dublin perspective is not only the range of beer but the fact that Geoff & Declan make it such a welcoming spot for beer lovers.

I'm hoping my recent experience of TSB in the Porterhouse (Nassau St) was not typical, I don't know if it was the fact that I had it straight after a pint of Wrasslers but it tasted of not much really, quite watery and insipid. I've previously had really nice pints of it so hopefully it was a once-off.

I had a pint of TSB in Porterhouse North last week and it was just as you described. Could be the staff as they are dreadful in all Porterhouse pubs for some reason (except Bray maybe)

I've been drinking it a bit in recent weeks, in North and Temple Bar, and have found it less harsh but definitely not insipid. I think its bitterness is affected by what you've been drinking before. I've found the second pint always goes down much smoother and with more of a tannin character than the first.
