Glad you enjoyed it. I use it as a cheap and easy way to feed guests, that I can enjoy too.

Ah, another of my loves! I've just come back from a few days in London and (amongst other things) I paid a visit to the Spice Shop near Portobello Road (Try www.thespiceshop.co.uk) and couldn't resist buying some Devils Penis Chillis. They actually look rather like pequin chillies and the internet doesn't clarify whether they are the same thing, but I couldn't resist the name. From their web site it would seem that I missed their "Aji Pinguita de Mono or little Monkeys dick" chillis but they do have an outlet in Edinburgh...

My chilli recipe is actually quite vague but, if they fit in the pot it does also have 3 beans (I'd substitute black-eyed beans for the butter beans), beer and (usually) at least 3 different types of chilli (habanero and chipotle being favourites).

Unfortunately, my wife is not a fan of hot food but she has developed a love of Thai food since I introduced her to it about 2 years ago so her tolerance to the chilli is gradually increasing but she has some way to go yet before I dare suggest she tries my plate-melter...

I at last got around to cooking some of Sean's chilli myself last night despite meaning to cook it pretty much the day after I tried at our inital meet 'n' swap. It's mighty tasty and what with my other half giving it the thumbs up, it'll be added to my homecook catalogue.

Unfortunately while dicing the green chillies a rather large glob of chilli juice sqirted into my left eye..........sweet mother of the divine lord Jesus Christ (and this coming from an avowed atheist) The Pain! The Pain! This must rate as one of the most unpleasnat experiences in my life to date. My eye felt like it was on fire, my nose streamed, the side of my face swelled and after the buring sensation had subsided I was left with a thumping headache stemming from the left side of my head. I flushed with copious amounts of water and but the pain persisted for around 10 minutes. I am always wary working with chillies, and the worst I figured could happen was rubbing my eye without washing my hands.

The only advice I can offer from this event is if any one of you find yourself in a country where the police are armed with pepper spray, for the love of god give up without a struggle!

That sounds really bad. I have been using fresh chillis for years and that has never happened to me. How unlucky are you!
