Buying Beer Online (Some nice links here) 17 years 8 months ago #1

I know this has come up before but i couldn't find the thread to add this to... So here's a new one.

I was having a read through one of the BeerAdvocate magazines and found a few online shops that deliver to here that i thought would be worth a mention (although they have possibly been mentioned here before)...

Sams wine is interesting.... They even sell kegs! 24 x Dog Fish Head 90 min IPA and 1 x 15.5 Gal Keg of Goose Island IPA cost about 205 dollars (143 euro). The shipping cost varies and it is based on weight. You have to ring them to get a quote...

One pain in the ass is tax. Now, I'm not great at this area so correct me if I'm wrong or leaving anything out. Excise Duty is charged at 3.5% (i think) and VAT on beer is 21%. Also there's usually an admin fee of about 15 euro. And then I think there is also VAT added to the shipping cost... Forgetting about the shipping costs and shipping tax for a moment though, the beer is going to cost about 200 euro. Not too bad for a keg and a case of top class beer!

As i said, tax isn't my think so if anyone wants to clean the above up, be my guest!

Also worth mentioning is you can ship up to 110 litres of beer from inside the EU for personal consumption, leaving you free from some of those pesky charges...

A keg of Goose would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. A little pricey, I suppose and I'm sure there would be all manner of regulatory issues on the import.

It looks a bit pricey alright but when you compare it to paying about 70 euro for a case of 24 bottles here it doesn't seem as bad!

Are you sure? It's late, and I'm tired, but I make out the excise to be around €65 for a 5.9% beer. Now I don't know about imports, but I presume they're charged at the same rate as domestic.

Also, forgetting about the shipping costs? at your peril, I would say. That could easily be another hundred euro or more.

I knew that would be wrong, i pulled it off another forum. It was the best I could do at the time.

I know the cost is going to be high, but even if you estimate over double the cost at up to 350 euro (including the tax and shipping)it still isn't too bad for a keg of Goose AND 24 x 90 minute IPAs. If you compare it to the only Goose available to us, it would take about 110 bottles to equal a keg - That would cost about 340 euro......
