Now have time and space to take on a project and am thinking of starting with a brew kit .....would apreciate any tips or pointers into which would be the best to start with , I am planning on visiting grapengrain next weekend to get the bits required.

Welcome to the site Doug, and to a new addiction

You won't be able to visit grapengrain physcially, as they only do phone orders since they closed their shop in Dublin a few years ago. I'll add my voice to the Homebrew Company supporters. They have a great range and are beer brewers themselves (and fellow members of ICB too) so keep a good stock as well as a great service.

Best of luck with yor brewing adventure. Take a peek in our Knowledgebase section for some tips on starting out with kits, or do what I did and jump staight into Extract based brews.
