Unless they're direct fired <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

I've only seen two direct fired gas kettles. I can't remember the specifics of one and the other just had a gas burner beneath it and was in a fairly well ventilated room, more by accident than design.

True, but direct fired is very inefficient use of gas

I think I read about 50% efficient which isn't very efficient at all! Electric is near 100%, but at 3 times the price of gas, gas should still work out cheaper.

(A modern gas condensing boiler is 96% efficient in the right conditions)
