TOPIC:

Beer Can Chicken 16 years 7 months ago #1

I read about this in the very good Appetite for Ale[/url:2na8yu9d].

There are loads of recipes on the web[/url:2na8yu9d].

Here how I made it.
1. Rub vegetable oil on the chicken. Also rub on paprika, salt, black pepper and some Italian seasoning.

2. Walk the dog to the shops to go get a can of beer. Fail to get a 330 ml can of beer and so buy a Beamish and a Coke.

3. Drink 80% of the can of coke. Poke some side holes in the can. Pour Beamish up to 3/4 of can.

4. Stick the can up the chickens backside. Seal the top of the chicken with some skewers. Put the chicken standing up in a casserole pot.

5. Cook the chicken in the oven according to the instructions on the back. It needs to end up with an internal temperature of 82 degrees to be ready.

6. Remove the can from the chicken. The beer basted the chicken so it was really tender.

It tasted lovely. Not particularly beery or anything just very succulent.

Could be interesting with a nice smoked beer or malty smoked porter?

I am not sure it will effect the taste enough to be worth using an expensive beer on.
