Yeah, thats right. The beer has been named different outside Cork it seems. The ale in Cork is Rebel Red while its Inspiration Red in the Gingerman.
Blarney Blonde is Writers Block, I think, while Friar Weiss remains unchanged.
I was in the Gingerman just last night. Over the last few yeras I have considered it my local. Not because I live nearby but because its close to Pearse Street Dart station and handy to pop in for a few. They've erected a type of fence around the pavement in front of the pub, probably to give the impression that they are at least trying to control the crowds that appear there in the sunshine. Somehow the fence has taken away slightly from what was a great spot for a few pitchers around a table.
I still go there most weeks.
Speaking of good spots.....though I was never a student in Dublin, Trinity College bar "Da' Pav" must be the best place to drink in Dublin in the summer sunshine. Just pick up a few snacks and a six pack of your choice in the Centra beside Pearse Street Dart station, then lounge on the grass in front of the cricket green. Cricket watching optional, and there are always streakers....though sadly its never any of the several hundred tipsy student hotties that are also drinking on the grass....And no, you're not too old....
Sean, if you're around another time give me a shout. I'd love to share a Gingerman platter and a pitcher of your choice....
