What a wuss!

When I was a student in Salford in the early 70s one of the big charity themes in Rag week was: "Give a pint of blood".

The scenario whent like this:

Night before (like every night night) drink a skinfull in the Uni bar - its Rag Week remember!.

Next day at abou 11 am stagger into the uUi and find the blood letting service!.

Salford Royal and the blood transfussion service used to send us the the prettiest young nurses to sooth the old brow, give you a half hour snooze on a bed, get a nice cuppa, biscuits as well, maybe a promise for later (or at least a phone number) AND an exemption from lectures.

If you was really in a bad way they had doctors there and Salford Royal ER was about half a K away!

Well in those days blood used to go into large glass bottles (like big 1.5 pint milk bottles) with a large head space. The competition was "Who could get the biggest head on their pint of "Blood and Beer" (Scottish and Newcastle) mixture"
