Went to a funeral removal tonight near the Abbot Alehouse As I was there stocked up on the following -

Fullers EBS which I never had before.
Mongozo Exotic fruits 5.9%, banana and coconut all gone but got a complimentary drinking vessel which is very nice.
Sierra Nevada, porter wheatbeer and summertime - all new to me!
Liberty Ale from Anchor Brewing co.
Heculues double IPA 9.1%
Old Scratch amber lager from Flying Dog Brewery, Denver Colorado. - again all new to me.
Orval, Rocheford 6 and 8 - nice to try them again - never had them at home before, only in Bierhaus,
PLUS -
AVENTINSU WEIZEN EISBOCK ALE (Apparently a classic made fromn partly frozen Aventenis which was originally made by misake. Apparentlyu 14-16% alcohol I belieeve - not mentioned on bottle. - Definitely worth a try.

All the above cos approx 3-3.50 euros excpe the Aaventinus Eisbock and the Hercules Double IPA which cost approx 5 euros which I think all things considered is pretty good value.

Must also mention very good service / suggestions from very knowledgeable staff member.

Who says Abbot ale house isn't the best off licence in the world!!!!!!!!

[color=olive:1szwp6m9]Let's not exaggerate, hmm. 12% ABV will do. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
And I've always doubted such beautiful stories. Eisbock - meaning freezing the beer to extract part of the water - is done more in Bavaria. In fact, the best known isn't the Aventinus - recreated more for export than for anything else - but the Kulmbacher "Bayerisches Gefrorn's" - originally brewed by Reichelbräu (now part of the general Kulmbacher Brauereien). At least that one was always available in Kulmbach. I drank that one as early as 1985 on the Burg...
"Discovered on a ship" - humbug. No way of evacuating the water. Much more likely inside the brewery in an exceptionally cold winter, or by a wrong pipeconnection.[/color:1szwp6m9]

I found the eis bock Aventinus to be a bit much for me. Nice though.
