Contract brewing and licencing 13 years 5 months ago #1

I thought I'd ask on the chance that somebody might shed some light on the licencing side of contract brewing for me.

As a precursor to opening a brewery, somebody else will be contract brewing the beer for me, which I will then distribute to pubs etc.

Obviously the brewer has a manufacturers licence, do I need to get a wholesalers licence? Any thoughts would be great, I've found it useful to have a bit of background knowledge before approaching revenue.

It is something you have to be very careful with. Is the brewer paying the duty or are they selling to you under bond? That is the first thing you need to find out. If under bond then you have to use a bonded warehouse with a transfer notice from their one to yours. It is not as clear cut as people think and the revenu are taking notice now as there are more people doing it.Our local revenu guy is very approachable so I would do that first

Talk to revenue about this. Best to sit down with them and get it all clear as soon as possible.

Much appreciated, I'll be sure to give you a heads up if it ever makes it to market
