Article: Has Britain fallen out of love with lager? 14 years 2 months ago #7

Thanks BN new one one me. I'll look it up when next in Blighty. Is it available in London?

Tube, a shandy is a shandy, many's the novice was blooded with a shandy. As for Guinness & black I know of only one person who drinks this and she rarely breaks out. The lager-top is/was a regular call from the regular lager drinker and was designed to take away the shapness of the lager. Castlemaine xxxx, now there's a drink. Fullers brought out a particularly nasty one about 20 years ago called K2, vile (showing my age)

Look out for Camden Town brewery and their USA Hells: it sounds lovely. People rave about Meantime Helles as well but it's never done it for me.

Shandy, now that brings me back,I once was a member of "an slua mhuiri",(Irish reserve navy)and went on camp to haulbowline in Cork, one night I drank more than a dozen pints of smithwicks shandy,(I know but I was young),found out later that smithwicks shandy is made using diced carrots.

I read about Camden, how things change. I remember when Camden was still a largely Irish area. I used to pass the Southampton Arms regularly, it was just a non-descript local pub, not the beer mecca it seems to be now. I'm due a visit in May, might just get lost.
