Brooklyn Black OPS 14 years 3 months ago #1

I was surprised and impressed to see that this has made it's way over.

This is like gold dust even in NY, a very limited release as well as being one of the best bourbon barrel-aged stouts I've come across.

It ain't cheap, but the price here isn't all that much more than I saw 6 miles from Brooklyn in December. I'd recommend it over some of the other expensive American bombers that are on the shelves now.

Sorachi Ace is here too, but I haven't tasted that - yet.

Phenonemal beer in my opinion. I paid $25 for a bottle in Buffalo NY. So considering shipping, duties etc the prices in Ireland are pretty good.

I have a bottle of the Sorachi Ace in the fridge, which won't be there for too much longer. I love Thornbrige Raven, which uses SA in it, but not sure how much. I think when Brewdog did single hop beers, the SA one got mixed reviews, so I guess I will have to make my own mind up.

Brooklyn I assume refers to the city

Black = Colour

But what does OPS stand for?

"OPS" is just an abbreviation of "Operations" and doesn't mean much on it's own.

"Black OPS" on the other hand, normally refers to clandestine military/intelligence operations using highly trained special forces units.

-The key idea is that "Black OPS" "never happened" and they are denied to ever have existed; I think the idea being that this beer from the Brooklyn brewery is a black beer and is so rare that most people won't ever see it and it can be denied that it ever existed; the rest is pure marketing genius. -Especially when you understand that difficult-to-find beers get you automatic "street cred" on sites like Beer Advocate and Rate Beer and so many US breweries are releasing beers that they know most people will never get the chance to try; -This is why I think Brooklyn was possibly even taking a jab at this US beer micro culture (as they're normally not a participant in it) while still paying it homage, and profiting from it at the same time.

It also happens to be the name of the highest grossing and selling? video game of all times; "Call of Duty: Black OPS" which has sold over $1 billion USD already! (Yes, video games make more money than movies today.) -Truly the Geek have inherited the earth!
