A Brazilian Blog Of Irish Brew. 14 years 10 months ago #1

Hello,

I will be spending some time in Ireland as a student between 2011 and 2012, and as a beer (and an Irish culture) enthusiast I will be writing a blog to share my impressions on the Irish brew.

In fact, Brazilian and Irish craftsbrewing scenary have a common aspect: They're both growing.

The Irish more in a rebuilding, I guess; the Brazilian just starting. But both growing.

I am arriving in August and before that I will try to review the Irish (or so called...) beers here. Yes, I live in São Paulo suburbs and I can find a Dublin brewed Guinness here (as well as Killkenny, Harp, and the two dutch-scotch-irish Murphy's).

I invite you to visit the blog at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="beyondtheblackstuff.wordpress.com/">beyondtheblackstuff.wordpress.com/ .

Sugestions, corrections, comments, praises and curses are welcomed!

And if there are some dubliners/dún learyans willing to taste some brazilian craftsbeer (maybe we can swap some bottles), let me know!

All the best!

Tiago.

Welcome to Beoir, Tiago. I'm sure we'll see you in the Bull & Castle or one of the other good beer pubs before long.

I'd definitely be interested in tasting some Brazilian craft beer! I have a Canadian friend who is living in SP, and I hear good things about the beer scene there. I'm American, so I'd be especially interested in US-style beers like Colorado Indica. Glad to swap and looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Nut,

Thank you. Yes, the Bull & Castle's beer hall looks great - plenty of irish craftsbrew on tap! Hope the Monkstown branch have something similar in their menu.

The "drink store" ( <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.drinkstore.ie">www.drinkstore.ie) looks like a very nice store for beer and it is just some blocks away from The Cobblestone - which would be like a holy pilgrimage place for an Irish Traditional Music lover like me! :D

In fact, I should just take care not to drink and 'craic' all my euros away.As I was told, long gone are the days when the pubs and restaurants disputed the student's labor!

Hi Keegan,

I can fetch you a Colorado Indica, yes. It is, certainly, the closer you can get of an american brew here. A nice batch of cascade hops in there! It has a fuller body comparing to american IPAs like Brooklyn's IPA and Snake Dog IPA though. For my money, it is at least as good as the american ones!

Another nice beer to fetch you would be an 'Eisenbahn 5'. We could not say it is, strictly speaking, an "american school beer". But there is a nice amarillo dry hopping there. That makes an american character.

I would like to bring with me a brazilian ale, brewed with ginger, called O'Driscoll (named after the irish rugby player!); but sadly it is, 'till now, out of stock here in São Paulo.

There's a dry hopped pilsen brewed with "guaraná" (an amazonian fruit) which is also very good. I will try to bring one of those too!

Well, thank you for the welcoming, hope I can meet you in the isle and learn about what you're brewing and tasting there!

I will leave a comment here when I update the blog - if it is not too much of an annoyance <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> .

All the best!

What an exciting list of Brazilian beers.

"The Pub" restaurant, which is what I believe you're talking about in Monk's town is in the FXB family and they do get a few imported decent beers in (Westmalle, some Goose Island from Chicago, but it's usually a very limited number of good beers and not usually Irish Craft Beer); it's definitely the best option in that area, though.

The Queen's Inn & Pub in Dalkey now has O'hara's beers, at least and isn't that far from Dun Laoghaire, either.

There's a new chicken restaurant right in the middle of all of the construction in Dun Laoghaire facing the sea, call the "Hen House" that now has O'hara's beers, too but their chicken is extremely overpriced.

The best bet for beer in Dun Laoghaire is sadly picking up something good from the off license in Ranelagh (Redmond's) or Dundrum (Devney's) and bringing it back with you...

Hi Adam,

It was this FXB bar I was thinking, yes. Nice to know there are some Belgium brews there (even if it is overpriced I am sure it is still cheaper than they are here!).

I will check these off-licenses! Thank You.

Well, I updated the blog with an overview of Irish brews here in Brazil. Irish brews and Irish inpired brews, actually. We have three brazilian craftsbrewed Irish Red Ales, which was a quite a surprise even to me. And then there is the great Rugbeer O'Driscoll - not an Irish Brew, but certainly 'Irish Inspired'.

All the best,

Tiago.
