Bit late I know, but Brú on McCurtain Street has Emerald on Cask for today. Also the White Gypsy Blonde on tap and the Franciscan beers.

Beernut had put a post re this a couple of weeks ago. Posters said there would be beers from four Irish microbreweries in the Bru and Bourbon Street Bar next door. I popped in last evening on the off chance that some of the festival beers would be on ealry but no such luck. Only the White Gypsy lager which is a regular there and very tasty too, good value too at 3.50 a pint.

Bru is a bar and hostel, bar is a bit like backpacker central. Band going full belt at 6.30 on Wednesday evening so I left after one!!.

Hope it worked out well.

Did not go out today Having my first bottle of Tokyo Stout tonight - not Irish but celtic,

I popped back into both bars again on Sunday evening. Saw the festive menu - both bars had two casks each and 3-4 more craft draft beers each - mainly from Franciscan, White Gypsy, Messrs Maguire and TSB from Porterhouse. From speaking to staff in both bars they did fairly ok on Patrick's day but quiet enough the following couple of days re the festive beers.

For the record on Sudnay evening in Bourbon Street they had Porterhouse TSB and Rebel Red on cask and Friar Weisse on tap. I just had a pint of Rebel Red - it was on the border of going off, a bit of a smelly socks aftertaste so imagine it is well gone by how.

In Bru they just had Emerald ale on cask and Friar Weisse on draught. Other beers had been put away in the cellar but will be brought back again on a phased basis I was told. Had two really lovely pints of Emerald Ale from Cualan. I imagine it was served via a sparkler as served with a good head which stayed. It was a lovely refreshing ale and I would ge pleased to have at any time. It would be great if this bar had more craft beers on all the time as with a hostel on site as well I think it could do well. Too many macro lagers to compete with at present.

Well done to both bars for making the effort and hopefully Bru will continue to host some good beers. I had hoped to try the Mersrs Brown ale but hopefully another time.
