Myself and Richie met up last night with our significant others for dinner and a selection of beers that had been gathering dust in Richie's shed. Normally I wouldn't post about such things but last night was special, not least because we decided to work our way through the following:

The beer on the far right is a lovely black lager brewed by fellow ICBer Marcel Desailly, which was almost indistinguishable from a stout. We tasted it side by side with a standard black lager and decided the homebrewed version was far superior.
Next I tried Van Ecke's Hommel Bier, which was an absolutely gorgeous hoppy amber ale with a honey sweet finish. Highly recommended.

Alongside our main course, which was Venison fillet carpaccio (one of the nicest things I have ever tasted!), we tucked into the first of the Cantillon offerings, the tart all-malt lambic Iris. Weird but delicious.

Finally, with our chocolate mousse dessert, we broke out the big boy: the rare Cantillon Lou Pepe, a blend of the best lambic, kriek and framboise casks. Absolutely astonishing! If you ever have the chance to try some, don't hesitate for a second. It really is an amazing experience.
