I believe in an Irish sense the definition of a craft beer is one which is not Guinness, Smithwicks, Budweiser, Carlsberg or Heineken. I've heard people giving out about pubs not stocking the minor beers like Miller or Coors.

The Italics were meant to denote a little sarcasm <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

I think the term your off licence would prefer is "specialty" or "world" beer -- you know, that weird foreign muck nobody drinks.

Where's the best place for a thread on the likes of Spaten?

ie: Quality beers that aren't "craft" and are far from Heineken?

We discussed this a few months ago IIRC. The conclusion was that they can still go in "Craft Beer". There's not really much point having a separate forum for 'em.

Henry Downes pub in Waterford does Spatan, or used to anyway. I'm sure I've seen it in Bottles in a few pubs. Bradys in Blanchardstown has it and they almost make a point of not stocking fancy beer so you have a good chance of finding it around I'd say.
