Kegs with a green and orange stripe 18 years 11 months ago #1

The other day I saw a lorry load of kegs bearing a green and orange stripe (the livery of the late lamented Dublin Brewing Company) trundling up Church Street. Can anyone explain this?

Is there any chance they're back in business? How come the premises on King Street have never been occupied by anyone else, and the bar stools and taps are still in place in the bar?

The only plausible explanation is that they've gone Wonka and the operation is now staffed by Oompa-Loompas who Never Go In and Never Come Out.

Any insider knowledge here?

I can't account for the kegs. What were you drinking at the time of the sighting?
The last I heard was that a van was still driving around bearing the Dublin Brewing Co livery, but was used for transporting imported bottled beers.

Anyone else have any info?

This morning I saw some of the kegs stacked outside Hughes' on Chancery Street. Obviously I should go in, but that place scares the bejaysus out of me.

Yes, I've seen the van around quite a bit, and the DBC banner still hangs above the Cobblestone, and the web site was live until at least the week before last.

Straws, clutching at...

Ah so this may explain why Monthys of Kathmandu no longer have Shiva beer, which they used have brewed by Dublin Brewing company specially for them. They claim 'out of stock' rather than 'brewery closed down'. Moser is no substitute

I think you are indeed clutching at straws. The Dublin Brewing company premises are available to let and their beers have not been available for years.

The fact that some hosting company still has a dead website hanging on their servers doesn't mean anything.

The cobblestone is a grotty little hole, which probably hasn't cleaned the toilets since the Dublin Brewing Company closed down either. The reason the Dublin Brewing Company banner is still up, is because someone would have to get up on a ladder and take it down and that smacks of effort.

The most likely explanation for the kegs in question is that someone bought them from the DBC, after they stopped brewing.

You're probably right, Seán. If they can leave a fully-functioning brewery vacant for two years in the development hotspot of Smithfield it shouldn't be surprising that there'd be a few dozen old kegs sitting out back as well.

Chances of the new tenant starting up a commercial brewery on King Street, anyone?
