There is one Dutch Trappist brewery [url:nktt00rf]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brouwerij_De_Koningshoeven[/url:nktt00rf]. The rest of them are Belgian. I believe the Dutch one (is it Le Trappe?) is brewed by one of the big brewers (possibly Heineken) in partnership with the monks, who have laid down conditions such as the ongoing contribution to charity etc.

Yep, La Trappe lost the Trappist title back in 1999, but has regain it in 2005 and is brewed by Bavaria
The monk only has a executive role, but this also happens in Chimay

There is also number of Trappist “Cistercian” monks/nuns in Irelands, but alas they dont brew

Irish Trappists. Me thinks there is an opportunity there for an enterprising micro.
