Does anybody know of an off-license in the greater Dublin area with a decent selection of American micro-brewery beers? I've been looking around for a while now but haven't had any luck.
Fairly subjective term, "decent". But most of Dublin's good beer off licences will carry stuff from Boston Beer Co., Brooklyn Brewing, Goose Island, Gordon Biersch, Sierra Nevada and Speakeasy. They're the green pins on this map[/url:2qseb28d].
There's a place off of Aungier St. that's not on the map...
If you're at the Dame St./St. George's intersection and you head S on St. Georges, (it becomes Aungier) you go past the YMCA on the right about 2 blocks more and there's a little Off-site there (across the street from a big grocery with a Gym on the two stories above the grocery) that carries a decent selection of German, Belgian, and American Craft beers.
They've got a pretty good deal on BigFoot Barley Wine right now...
They've also got Eggenberg Samiclaus (Austria), in case you haven't tried what was the world's strongest beer up until a couple of years ago... (I'm not saying it's good; just that its strong; lol!)
Whelan's. Yeah, I debated whether or not to include it. It used to be great but then went through phases of being packed out with Polish lager and the same old weizens.
I'll add it, cheers.
(Saw a guy drinking Samichlaus in Porterhouse North yesterday. He had been given a glass with ice for it. 'Course he realised this was wrong, which is why he was drinking it straight from the bottle.)
