Surely once it's filled there would be little to no oxygen in a growler, especially with co2 from the beer pushing most of the oxygen out. Until it's opened of course, which means that a co2 flushed growler would also be back to square 1 once a glass has been poured?
Fill stations are still great, I just always thought the co2 flush was more of a gimmick with minimal benefit for those who plan to open it sooner than later.
Unless there's another better reason for it I'm not aware of?[/quote:iih3o88v]
Its the same reason you flush C02 into your corny before filling or squirt C02 into your bottle before filling using a beergun or counter pressure filler minimises oxidation even though the timeframe is a lot shorter for consumption with a growler.

Cheaper? No it's not. It's usually cheaper than the pub but not usually cheaper than the bottled equivalent from the off-trade.[/quote:3cva68f5]
Should this be the case? I thought the saving on packaging would reduce the price.
I saw that one of the off licences is selling a litre of beer for a tiny amount more than the price of 3 x 355ml bottles of the same beer. I know I would just buy the bottles in that case.
Its a nice idea and reminds me of the way they sell wine in Italy from barrels, just bring your own empty bottle and fill it. But you pay less for it that way.
