Well researched Les.

Well done Les, that's some real team play there.

Nice to hear you express the same opinion as I have about the IPA too. I thought it was just me.

I first had Caledonia IPA a good few years ago and liked it a lot. It disappeared from the place I used to buy it for a while and when it came back, it just wasn't the beer I remembered. I thought maybe that my tastes had changed, as I had sampled quite a few more beers, including Goose Island IPA since then, but maybe it actually used to be a better beer than it is now.

So the XPA isn't worth a damn either then? Pity.

I know. When I arrived in Scotland 11 years ago I liked Caledonian beers but they've gone downhill in recent years IMO. Deuchars has lost its former lovely hoppiness and has become very one-dimensional. 80/- has also lost a lot of its former complexity and just tastes vaguely of caramel to me now.

Of course there is nothing to stop us craft brewers attempting to reproduce beers such as these as we remember them rather than their current versions.

I have to admit I've never tried the Callie IPA, but it sounds like it's too late to bother?

I used to like the 80/-, but I last had it about 6 years ago. Has it changed since then or was I drinking the carameley, non-complex stuff?

I'm not sure when I noticed the change because I don't drink 80/- very often, but it could have been around then. I think it pre-dated the Scottish Courage thing.

I tried the IPA about a year ago and liked it a lot, then I had it again last month and was disappointed. Seeing as I doubt the brew has changed in such a short space of time I guess my taste has just changed.
