Stark Bier Festival, Munich 17 years 1 month ago #1

First-time author oconn has given us his account[/url:w84v0wd7] of last weekend in Munich, taking in the Stark Bier Festival, the one where the -ator doppelbocks are released into the world. A worthy alternative to Oktoberfest, by the looks of things.

Litre servings of Doppelbock seems insane! Not much hope of sampling a wide variety in one night with those volumes and ABVs <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

its fearsome...one of the lads who is living there had a few bizzare stories from the previous weekend...so were almost afraid of it......all the Ein Prosit'ing etc then means you have to drink at a certain pace too...

Very good, I have heard that the Stark Bier Festival was much better than Oktoberfest

Another Munich Bier Fest I'd highly recommend is the Fruhlings Fest (Spring Fest). Held in April, just as the bier gardens are reopening. There's only two tents but it's predominantly locals and we were able to go on a Friday evening at 7pm and squeeze in! If you have a few words of German to break the ice with the locals, you're guaranteed a great night, and without the fear of the Maximator!

What is the taste of Maximator like? can you taste the ABV enough to warn you off drinking it or is ti one of those fine till you stand up brews?

I was always wary of octoberfest but did not know enough about the alternatives to risk one. Thanks for the write up.
