[quote:1ip149qv]The most interesting thing I learned was that the Messrs Maguire taps were plumbed incorrectly when we first arrived so the underwhelming IPA we all tried was in fact his Czech lager. I got a blast of his IPA later in the evening and is was a no messing traditional IPA. It was bitter, hoppy and up front with alcohol. [/quote:1ip149qv]That explains a lot. I couldn't understand how the IPA was so devoid of hop character.

Nicely written. Felt like I was there until I realised how thirsty I was getting!

Thanks for the comments, guys.
I can't believe we didn't spot the IPA error. We we're only after two pints! Then again, there were a couple of pro brewers who didn't spot it either.

was in the well last night. they still have 2 casks of the IPA which will be 'guesting' in the near future. wouldn't crack it open for me last night the git! nothing else left to sample. had to settle for the rebel red as usual! ah well.

If you're down in cork and want something a bit different, there's a great little bar off Patricks Street called the Mutton Lane In (very close to burger king) and they do loads of different bottled beers - duvel, chimay, staropramen, cobra, skullsplitter (an orkney islands ale, 9%) and some others. I found it a couple of years ago and love it.

Yes indeed, the Mutton Lane Inn is the biz, but can be very crowded (feckin' students!). Also along the north quays from the Franciscan Well is the Bierhaus. It also has a decent range of bottled beers and a couple of interesting taps too.

damn heading back to dublin this evening.... must remember for next time.
Another thing about the mutton lane which is great - no feckin tv!
