Halfway House 17 years 10 months ago #13

If anyone is planning a trip to Edinburgh, I'd recommend the Halfway House, on a narrow lane between the Royal Mile and Waverley Station. It's small and cozy but they have a nice selection of ales.

This was a very timely article as i'm just back from a few days in Edinburgh.

Unfortunately i didn't get to visit many pubs as i had a two year old in tow but i did manage to stock up on a few bottles..

Cornelius in Easter Road is a top notch place for buying Scottish brews - the best i found in the city. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth visiting. I picked up some hard to find stuff - Traquair 900, Orkney Dark Island Reserve and two of the Brew Dog Paradox brews..

They also had loads of other Scottish stuff from Broughton, Isle Of Sky, more from Orkney, Black Isle and Harviestoun. Sadly the Ola Dubh was nowhere to be found...

They also had a decent selection of German stuff - Unertl Mühldorfer Weissbier, Kaltenberg Ritterbock and Konig Ludwig Weisse.

Peckhams also had a great Scottish and decent Belgian selection (at least the branch in Stockbridge did) although was a lot more expensive than Cornelius - the Dark Reserve being £1.50 more...

Edinburgh Wine Merchants in Stockbridge also had a very good Belgian selection including a couple from Cantillon.

All the Whisky shops dotted around the city are also worth a look as i tracked down the Islay aged Brewdog in one - Royal Mile Whiskies i think it was...
