Whilst enjoying a pint of GH recently in one of my favourite pubs I asked behind the counter were there many regular drinkers.

To my surprise the answer was "yeah, there's another lad who drinks it too"!

Shocked that there appeared to be so few I asked who else... "mainly tourists who are curious about the whole 'Hooker' bit - they'd try a pint of it".

The reality is that the vast majority of drinkers are not ready or open to tasty beer. We have been conditioned by a century or so of one brand blandness.

I have trademarked the name 'Dublin Slapper' tho, to see if the marketing effect is transferrable <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

Galway Hooker beermats? Promotional pricing?

The one-brand-blandness become dominant by doing these things, plus much more expensive marketing too. That's what has conditioned the Irish drinker to order without even glancing at what's available. The publican cannot expect a microbrew to shift in the same way. If they're serious about selling it, they need to give it a little extra push. It's not difficult.
