Actons pub, Macreddin village 19 years 1 month ago #1

Has anyone ever been to Acton's pub, Macreddin village, Co. Wicklow? They allegedly brew 2 beers for the pub there; an organic lager and a stout. Or so the site says:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.brooklodge.com/foodanddrink/actonspub.asp">www.brooklodge.com/foodanddrink/actonspub.asp
I would be interested to know something about the brewery, the brewer and the beers.

Never been there and had no idea the place, let alone the microbrewery existed. Well spotted DrJohn.

I'm sure I saw it mentioned on the europeanbeerguide.net site. I don't find myself in Wicklow too often, so I can't vouch for it.

In answer to my own original post here, I have been talking to someone who has been there, and he tells me that the brews are available in the pub (Acton's) and also to residents at the hotel (Brooklodge). He said they were tasty enough. It all fits in to the organic foodie image of the facility; nothing wrong with that!

I was down at the BrookLodge hotel over Christmas and tried both the stout and the lager from Acton's Country Pub and Microbrewery. Nice enough but I wasn't overly impressed.

I got talking to the bar man and it turns out the beers are brewed for them by Messrs McGuires on the quays in Dublin. He said they used to brew on the premises down there but haven't for a couple of years. I suppose demand wouldn't be huge so its easier and more economical to get a bigger brewery to brew them in those situations.

If your passing by its worth popping in though.

Thanks for that oisinB. I was in Mssrs Maguires over the weekend. I had a couple of their brews, but there is something I just don't fancy about the place. And they had promos on the tables that read "Have you tried Bud Light yet?". Jeez!
