James, Tapatalk is upgraded now, so give it a whirl and let me know if anything is different. I can't imagine it would do a global reset of unread PMs without other sites reporting that on the support forums.

We could also up the PM box limit, after you check Tapatalk, to see if that makes a difference. But again, a full box shouldn't flag things are read incorrectly without there being a rash of similar reports. Unless it's a template issue... hmmm... Would be good to find a pattern, if there is one.

Just to be clear:

1. "View Unread Posts" = no probs - works perfectly

2. I just use a laptop ( no mobile fandangles etc etc ) and after about 8 hours "View New Posts" has reset itself.

The scenario is:

I wake up, get out of bed, make a brew, and go to computer, select the Beoir tab (I hardly ever logout), click on "View new posts", read the posts, and drink the coffee. After 2 hours say, if I browse again I see the original list ( marked as read ) and any new posts ( or updates to read posts )

If I wait longer than about 8 hours, next time I look at "VNP" I see a totally different set of postings. If I then go to VUrP" I see what I have missed

Thanks for the description, Will.

I just tried a little test. I clicked VNP, got a list, read a couple, refreshed list, and all the same posts were listed, with some marked as read. I then logged out and logged in again. Clicked VNP, and got nothing. At least in this case, it definitely tried to show new posts since my last login/session which was, well, nothing.

After 8 hours or so, I'd expect to see a completely different set of posts (not sure if it shows every post, or just the latest in a thread, as I've not been using that "feature"). Forgive a stupid question, but could you describe what you mean by a totally different set of postings, compared to what you expect to see? Best way might be for me to come over and have a pot of coffee with ya!

What happens when you log out and back in again? Basically, what it should be doing is showing you all new posts since your last connect, so if you do it quickly, you get nada (as opposed to nama).

[size=85:25qlbe8h]I have to admit, I prefer the View Unread Posts, as at least it filters out what was read, and doesn't care about when I last logged in, which is sometimes a long time....[/size:25qlbe8h]

Here's the scenario:

I login and read all my posts so that both "ViewUnread" and "ViewNew" buttons return empty lists.

Some time later I look at my "ViewNewPosts" and see lets say 6 posts. ( I know that VURposts would also show the same 6 )

So I read posts 1, 3, and 5

So I now have unread 2,4,6

Now I go away (don't logout) and come back say 10 hours later.

I would expect to see my VNP return the real new ones A,B,C as well as 2,4,6

But no. I only see A,B,C

ViewUnread correctly returns A,B,C,2,4,6

I know its not a major problem but I am cutious

Cheers

Will, VNP only shows new posts since you last logged in, it will not show posts that have not been updated since, whether you have read them or not. At the top of the screen it shows your last log in time.
You also say you rarely log out so you probably have the "log me in automatically" button ticked. You may be getting logged out and in again while you are away from the laptop.

Yep, Lugh has it. Even if you don't expressly log out, your session will time out, so when you pop in again, your browser automatically logs you in. So as you are also automatically logged/timed out, it will only show the new posts since then regardless of whether they were read or not. Not the most useful feature if you don't read everything new in one go
