happens to me all the time too. I use firefox

Hmm, I never get logged out, and never have to enter my password. Do you have some rule set that deletes cookies, or do you have cookies disabled?

I have only recently moved from IE to Firefox, and I haven't noticed any difference between the two. As far as I know there is no server-side session timeout that I can change, but I'll look into it. The fact that most people don't experience this makes me think it's client-side. I often leave ICB open and inactive for more than 5 minutes (often more than an hour if I'm busy in work ).

as your a site admin you probably stay logged in longer by default.

Ok, just had a poke about, and the standard session timeout is 15 minutes. For admins it's 30 mins. 15-20 is normal for most web-apps. There's an implied security risk in longer session times (or so Joomla tells me ). With the "remember me" box ticked I never have to log in unless I have cleared cookies, so I'm wondering why some of you have to actually log back in, or is this the case?

I can up the timeout a bit, say to 30 mins for everyone if there is a call for it, but I don't want to extend it for hours or something.

I find I have log in most times I visit the site. Unless I'm being particularly chatty

Ok, just had a little chat on MSN with n1mbus (live support ).

n1mbus does not check the "remember me" box. When he does nothing for a while, he has to log in again. Basically, the session ends and forgets him. This is nothing to do with cookies getting deleted, as the default in FF is to keep cookies till they expire.

If the "remember me" box is checked the cookie should contain your login details, so even if your session has timed out, it will log you in automatically. So, in my case, as soon as I hit the site I am logged in without having to do anything. If my session expires and I then try to navigate to another page, it again logs me in, so I don't notice.

Can I ask, for those who are experiencing this behaviour, do you have the "remember me" box ticked on the login form? Just so I get a better picture on this behaviour.

Thanks!
